Twisted pair cables are cost-effective compared with other types of telephone cables. However, they can have higher attenuation and lower bandwidth depending on the cable type. There are two main types of twisted pair cables:

a. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

UTP cables do not use a physical shield to protect against external interference. They are among the most commonly used twisted pair cables for residential and business applications. Different UTP categories offer different bandwidth and performance levels, such as CAT1 and CAT2.

b. Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)

STP cables use a foil or other conductive shielding layer to reduce external electromagnetic interference. They are commonly used in environments where additional protection against interference is required, including enterprise and high-performance applications.
